Claudia Augusta Straße
The Claudia Augusta Street was one of the most important streets of the Roman Empire and connected the Southern German territory to Italy.
Sentiero Dürer
The sentiero Dürer/Dürerweg that starts in Laghetti di Egna at the Piazza della Libertà leads you along track no. 7, following a steep way on the mountain slope and then towards the Roman bridge at Lauggesbach. There you leave track no. 7 and continue on the right until Buchholz. From there, take track no. 8 and follow the signs to sentiero Dürer/Dürerweg until you reach Totenstöckl, where you take track no. 1 and continue to Salorno. From there, follow your way back to no. 3, first to San Giovanni and then to Garbe, following track no. 5, and next to Castle Cornedo until you go back to Laghetti di Egna, finally.
Characteristics of the track
The sentiero Dürer is named after the German painter Albrecht Dürer that, during his trip to Venice, had to take the detour to the monastery of Saint Florian due to flooding and went over towards Buchholz to reach the Cembra Valley.
Monastery
The hospice for pilgrims Klösterle Saint Florian next to Laghetti di Egna remained preserved as one of the few medieval European hospices. Built in 1220, even Albrecht Dürer stopped at this ancient hospice.
Haderburg
The Haderburg, also called Castle Salorno, is worth going to - not only due to the medieval inn at the castle:
Built on a steep lime rock, the castle marks the border between the German and the Italian-speaking area. It dates back to the 13th century and, since then, the castle was in possession of the Counts of Tyrol as well as the Hapsburg and the Venetian Counts Zenobio-Albrizzi.
You can reach the castle following a 20 minute long ascent.
Opening hours of the Haderburg inn:
Wednesday 10.00-16.30
Thursday to Sunday 10.30-19.00
Monday and Tuesday, special opening hours only on holidays
